The Power of a Good Primer

I know when I first started using makeup, I never used primer - ever. And now it's something I would never in a million years go without. So i'm going to let you know my opinion on a few of my favourite primers, and what they do. Trust me, after reading this, you will be running to pick up a primer (if you aren't already)

What is primer?

Primer is something applied as a base - I use it over my moisturizer and before my foundation. There are many different kinds of primers - eyeshadow primers, lip primers, mattifying primers.

Face primers act as a base for your foundation, ensuring it lasts the day (Most of the time) They essentially make sure that your foundation stays in place and doesn't slip into your pores over the course of the day. I use Australis Primer. It retails around the $13.95 mark and it is the single best primer I have ever used. My makeup does not move until I hit the shower at night.

Eyeshadow Primers also act as a base for your eyeshadow - although they also dilute the pigment on your eyelids. They usually come in a cream or skin colour form so that when it is put on, it cancels out all colour on your eyelids, ensuring that the eyeshadow you use will be the same colour you see in the pan. As well as this, primers are quite sticky, so it holds on to your eye shadows a lot better and will help your eye shadow to not crease. I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance which retails at the $26 price point.

Lip Primers act also most the same as the shadow primers. They work to mainly rid your lips of pigmentation to ensure that when you apply a light pink lipstick for example, that it comes off the same colour. If you're like me and you have quite red lips, they tend to come off as a more red colour which is quite pointless in buying that colour lipstick in the first place. Some lip primers also act as a moisturizing base, to ensure your lips don't flake to make your lipstick look horrible. They also act like a face primer, to make sure your lipstick stays on for as long as possible. They really are amazing items. I usually use Elf Lip Primer and Plumper which retails at around $10 depending on where you source it from.

Hopefully this will help a few of you out now that you know what they all do and how they can help you! They really all are holy grail products.
